It seems like a great tool and perfect for 3rd grade. As I think through first 6 weeks, that one seems important in the way you described it. I especially enjoyed reading about the many ways you connect your community to other learners.

CathyCathyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08233792477358685156noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-131525224413949257.post-4558339914734153072015-07-16T18:22:51.272-07:002015-07-16T18:22:51.272-07:00Great new blog name!

When I moved from first to fourth grade, I created a brand new blog space and also a new name that fit the journey I was taking.

I love all of the examples you shared in your post! It is so true that, more often than not, kids come up with a better way to do something than what I originally intended! They have a real knack for figuring things out quickly and reimagining the possible.

And I completely agree - Amazon Prime. 2 days. You are so right about thinking about our own practices as readers. Would we create a diorama? Answer questions? Write a summary? NO! SO, why are we teaching students so do this? I have to remember to consider myself as a reader first and then ask if I would want/need to do those activities and stop myself in my tracks. My graduate students always want to find fun activities related to a book and while some are good, some are not and make the experience inauthentic. Thank you for the reminder!

StephanieStephaniehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02575907849285378665noreply@blogger.com
